But other tasks, like employee training, can occur in parallel. You need to complete some tasks, such as coding the software before rolling out the update. These charts foster team collaboration by presenting a centralized, coherent view of the project, thereby minimizing misunderstandings and closing knowledge gaps.Įxample: Imagine orchestrating a large-scale cybersecurity update across multiple teams. Modern Gantt chart software further elevates the practice by providing real-time updates, allowing for Agile adaptability. They offer dynamic benefits like enhancing sequencing and scheduling, particularly in projects with multifaceted dependencies. Gantt charts are often the go-to visual tool for this purpose, with horizontal bars indicating the duration of each task and connecting lines specifying the dependencies among them. So, the Pro version includes the option to display the original planned schedule, as demonstrated in the image below.Dependency mapping is a cornerstone in project management, not only for identifying, analyzing, and documenting task interdependencies but also for prioritizing them effectively. Update : Although cross-hatching isn't currently possible as a conditional formatting option in Google Sheets (or Excel Online), I figured out how to implement it using text ("////"). You can also turn on/off the display of the original dates in the Gantt Chart by unchecking a box or using a drop-down option.Ĭurrent customers can return to the download page for Gantt Chart Pro to get a copy of the new version. You can hide the Original Start and Original End columns if you do not want to use them or display them. After you create your plan using the normal approach, you can copy the dates from the Start and End columns into the two new columns using Copy and Paste Special > Values. You'll see that this new version includes two new data entry columns: Original (or Planned) Start and Original (or Planned) End. original dates in the Gantt Chart Pro version 4.0 (click to view larger image) Screenshot showing a comparison of the actual vs. The screenshot below shows a new feature of Gantt Chart Pro that provides an option for displaying original dates as a diagonal fill pattern. Thanks to Excel 2007+, which provided a more powerful set of conditional formatting rules than Excel 2003, it is possible to show the planned and actual project dates within the same chart. The third method gets us part way there, but many people have wanted to see the differences in the Gantt Chart itself. The first two approaches don't make it easy to visually compare differences between the planned and actual dates. Showing the Original Dates in the Gantt Chart With the new columns, you can compare dates side-by-side, but that still may not be as visual as you'd like. Many people do that to add a budget column, and in this case you could add columns to keep track of original start and end dates. It's easy to insert new columns in the XLSX version of the Gantt chart. Add New Columns for Storing the Original Dates Screenshot showing separate Plan and Actual worksheets 3. This still doesn't provide a good solution for easily comparing planned and actual dates, though. ![]() Of course, these worksheets will be entirely independent, but it's an easy solution for keeping a copy of the original project plan. You can make a copy of the Gantt Chart worksheet within the same workbook and rename the worksheets GanttChart-Actual and GanttChart-Plan (see the image below). Make a Copy of the Gantt Chart Worksheet and Rename It You can view files side-by-side or compare printouts. Keeping a backup is always a good idea, and this is the most basic approach for keeping a record of the original plan. Keep a Backup Copy of the Original Project Plan The simple answer is "yes, depending on how you want to show the difference." In this post, I'll explain how you can do this using the new version of the Gantt Chart Template Pro that makes it easy to see visually. I was recently asked if my Gantt Chart Template could be used to compare actual dates to original project dates. ◄ Return to the Gantt Chart Template Page

![]() Plague doctors also sometimes took patients' last will and testament during times of plague epidemics, and gave advice to their patients about their conduct before death. In certain European cities like Florence and Perugia, plague doctors were requested to do autopsies to help determine the cause of death and how the plague affected the people. Plague doctors practiced bloodletting and other remedies such as putting frogs or leeches on the buboes to "rebalance the humors." A plague doctor's principal task, besides treating people with the plague, was to compile public records of plague deaths. Of eighteen doctors in Venice, only one was left by 1348: five had died of the plague, and twelve were missing and may have fled. Pope Clement VI hired several extra plague doctors during the Black Death plague to tend to the sick people of Avignon. The city of Orvieto hired Matteo fu Angelo as a plague doctor in 1348 for four times at a normal doctor's rate of 50 florins per year. In this satirical work, Fürst describes how the doctor does nothing but terrify people and take money from the dead and dying. After De Lorme, German engraver Gerhart Altzenbach published a famous illustration in 1656, which publisher Paulus Fürst's iconic Doctor Schnabel von Rom (1656) is based upon. According to Michel Tibayrenc's Encyclopedia of Infectious Diseases, the first mention of the iconic plague doctor is found during the 1619 plague outbreak in Paris, in a biography of royal physician Charles de Lorme, serving King Louis XIII of France at the time. History Īn early reference to plague doctors wearing masks is in 1373 when Johannes Jacobi recommends the use of masks, but offers no physical description of the masks themselves. Plague doctors were known as municipal or "community plague doctors", whereas "general practitioners" were separate doctors and both might be in the same European city or town at the same time. In France and the Netherlands, plague doctors often lacked medical training and were referred to as " empirics". Plague doctors rarely cured patients, instead serving to record death tolls and the number of infected people for demographic purposes. In one case, a plague doctor was a fruit salesman before his employment as a physician. In many cases these doctors were not experienced and trained physicians or surgeons, instead being volunteers, second-rate doctors, or young doctors just starting a career. Some plague doctors were said to charge patients and their families additional fees for special treatments or false cures. Plague doctors had a mixed reputation, with some citizens seeing their presence as a warning to leave the area or that death was near. ![]() These physicians were hired by cities to treat infected patients regardless of income, especially the poor that could not afford to pay. I also tried to order a Quasar Pullover, but they were out of stock in my size. It didn't make sense to me that a 22oz down jacket could be warm enough for 8000 meter peaks. I love jackets, so when I saw MHW's 22oz Nilas Down Jacket (the same weight as my Rab Neutrino) that apparently is part of Ueli's Himalayan system, I had to see it for myself. He assured me that those stagnant days were over and that MHW would be at the forefront of apparel and equipment innovation, starting with the Ueli line. While talking to the Mountain Hardwear rep for Utah, he admitted that the last few years had been a little stagnant for MHW that they hadn't been as innovative as they used to be. I checked it over throughly and was pleasantly surprised at what I found. While I was at the Outdoor Retailer show this past January, I stopped by the Mountain Hardwear booth to take a close look at the new, Ueli-inspired line of alpine climbing apparel. ![]() It seemed to me that their quality and core commitment was a little lacking in the last few years. To be honest, I used to be a big Mountain Hardwear fan, but in recent years I was less psyched on their gear. So, when Mountain Hardwear announced that they were making an alpine climbing line of apparel, designed specifically for Ueli and mostly by Ueli, I perked up. I often check his websites to hear about his latest feats and goals and I can't count how many times I have watched the video of him free-soloing the Eiger. Few people have become more enamored with Ueli and his climbing than I have. His speed free solos of the Matterhorn, the Grand Jorasses, and most notably, the north face of the Eiger, have brought him super stardom around the world, but especially in the climbing community. Almost everybody in the climbing community (and most in the general outdoor community) have heard about Ueli Steck.
